SODI and Monash University recently hosted a special fireside chat featuring two world-leading experts in AI ethics and governance: Karolin Nakonz, who served as Gen AI leader and EMEA Focal to the IBM AI Ethics Board in IBM Consulting, and Anne Skeet, the Senior Director of Leadership Ethics at the Markkula Center (Santa Clara University). The session brought together researchers, technologists, organizational leaders and ethicists.

Karolin Nakonz
Gen AI leader and EMEA Focal to the IBM AI Ethics Board in IBM Consulting
Karolin Nakonz is a leading expert in AI, automation and organizational transformation. Most recently she was an Executive Partner at IBM, with over 20 years’ experience of providing consulting services to public and private sector organisations. She is currently the Gen AI Leader for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and the EMEA Focal to the IBM AI Ethics Board. She previously led IBM’s Automation Practice in the UK & Ireland, working with clients to transform their organisations with Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Prior to joining IBM, Karolin worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and at the German Development Bank KfW. Karolin holds a Masters Degree in Economics, and a Postgraduate Degree in Development Economics.
Anne Skeet
Senior Director of Leadership Ethics at the Markkula Center (Santa Clara University)
Ann (Gregg) Skeet is the senior director of leadership ethics at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics. She is a co-author of “Ethics in the Age of Disruptive Technologies: An Operational Roadmap” and “Voting for Ethics: A Guide for U.S. Voters Second Edition” and a member of the AI Research Group at the Vatican Dicastery on Culture and Education, and the Partnership on AI’s Enterprise AI Steering Committee. Skeet earned a bachelor of arts in economics from Bucknell University and a master of business administration degree from Harvard Business School.
