WORKPLACE DIVERSITY

& DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES

Addressing the Digital & AI Paradox

In partnership with the University of Chicago, The Science of Diversity and Inclusion Initiative (SODI) brings together leading researchers and organizations to form a living laboratory that catalyzes high impact innovations in diversity and innovation. SODI fuels researchers advancing the science by convening its network of behavioral science researchers - representing the fields of economics, psychology, and other social sciences - who have expertise in the areas of diversity and inclusion.

Convening Theme

Emerging technologies offer the opportunity to combat and uncover discrimination and bias in labor markets and the workplace, but these technologies can also perpetuate harmful discrimination. How can these technologies can also perpetuate harmful discrimination. How can AI-assisted recruitment overcome biases against underrepresented minorities?

Experimental research has an important role to play in understanding how modern technologies in recruitment will affect the diversity and equity of outcomes and provide insights into key practitioner challenges and burning questions given regulatory, legal, policy change driving technological adoption and workplace disruption.

Distinguished researchers will present their latest and best research on workplace diversity and participating researchers will have the opportunity to brainstorm with leading technology partners on creating experiments to tackle key questions. The research talks will cover the latest studies in recruitment and in modern technology’s impact on hiring. In the brainstorming sessions, we will identify the urgent questions and critical research pathways within the context of the continuing technological disruption of labor markets and resulting implications for diversity, equity outcomes for under-represented groups. The convening will also serve as a forum to provide input into a pioneering initiative to create a map of existing and emerging workplace diversity research. Importantly, the map will translate research findings into actionable steps that organizations can take to improve workplace diversity.
While the primary audience for the June 2022 SODI Convening is researchers, we welcome D&I leaders who are interested in the intersection of hiring, technology, and diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) to attend.
